Iplayer return button failure

I have a Sony KDL40HX723, iplayer will start to play tv programs ok, but when I press stop then return, instead of returning to the previous iplayer menu, the TV's rotating wait icon is displayed and the tv has to be turned off and on again at the socket to retain control and show anything else.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar with iplayer???
